Hendricks County Water Facility Proposed as Part of Lebanon Supply Expansion

Citizens Energy Group has proposed a booster station and two 1.5-million-gallon storage tanks in Hendricks County as part of infrastructure supporting water delivery to Lebanon. Mirror Indy reports an estimated project cost of $48 million.

The facility is part of the Citizens–Lebanon Water Supply Program, which includes water-main extensions, booster stations, storage facilities and expansions at two treatment plants. Citizens says the program is designed to provide up to 25 million gallons of water per day to Lebanon Utilities by 2031.

How the water would reach LEAP

Citizens would supply water to Lebanon Utilities as a wholesale customer. Lebanon Utilities would then distribute it to its customers, including businesses within the LEAP district. Citizens says the program expands surface-water treatment capacity rather than groundwater production.

Questions about the proposed facility

At an August Hendricks County plan commission meeting, residents raised concerns about noise, lighting, drainage and appearance. Citizens says the location meets its technical requirements. The utility describes the $48 million figure as an updated engineering estimate reflecting better market data closer to construction.

For Lebanon and Boone County, the proposal illustrates the regional infrastructure involved in expanding the city’s water supply. Readers can find construction maps, project information and public-engagement updates through the Citizens–Lebanon Water Supply Program website.
